Travel cover should be reviewed before money is committed to a trip. The important questions are usually about cancellation, medical treatment, assistance, baggage, exclusions, and evidence.

Travel insurers commonly ask health questions to assess medical risk. Disclose relevant conditions, recent investigations, medication, treatment, and advice not to travel as requested by the screening process. A condition that seems stable may still matter if it changes the risk of cancellation or treatment abroad.

Ask what happens if a condition is excluded, whether a medical excess applies, and whether emergency assistance can help locate appropriate care. Carry a medication list, prescriptions, doctor contact details, and policy assistance numbers, while protecting personal information.

Read destination, activity, and pre-existing-condition wording. High-risk sports, cruises, pregnancy, alcohol-related incidents, and travel against medical advice can have special rules. Buy cover early enough for cancellation benefits to become relevant, if the policy provides them.
